Matilda Vanwyck, 21, spinster, Wesleyan Methodist. Born Ontario, residing Sydenham. Parents Veart and Esther Vanwyck.

On 21st May, 1873, at Sydenham, by William Tucker, minister. By publication of banns.

Matilda's father's given name appears to be variously speled, but viewing both the entry on Matilda's marriage registration plus that of her Wesleyan Methodist baptism record makes 'Veart' at least approximately correct.

NoteShe The Wesleyan Methodist baptism page that includes Matilda's name harks back to when Sydenham Township was in the Wellington District and this would be correct for early entries. By the time Matilda came along, this would have been Grey County.

The baptism record has it that she was born and baptized in Sydenham (Township). The officiating clergyman was A. Campbell. Her sister, Mary Jane, who was a witness at Matilda's marriage, has her baptism shown on the same page. Mary Jane was born on 25 May 1854 and baptized on 9 July of the same year.
