ID # 7065, (1851-)
BirthJane McLaren was born in 1851.
MarriageShe married Davidson Jack, son of James Jack and Jean Hood, on 25 September 1873 at Bruce Township, Bruce County.
A marriage registration for Davidson and Jane has been sought, but not found. There is the following, however:

The Hamilton Branch of the Ontario Genealogical Society has published extracts from the Christian Messenger, a Baptist periodical. These begin in 1854 and the entire run is shows as the Christian Messenger. The publication, however, was renamed the Canadian Baptist as of January 5, 1860.

The following appears in the Hamilton OGS publication as Volume 9 (CM09) and is extracted from the October 23, 1873 edition of the Canadian Baptist.

The parties are identified as Jack-McLaren (MacLaren), on the 23rd ult (which is to say the previous month, September).
At the residence of the bride's father by Rev. James Coults of Tiverton, assisted by Rev. W. Fraser.

Davidson, fifth son of James Jack Esq., Lakeshore, Kincardine Township, to Jane, second daughter of Peter McLaren of Bruce Township.

See notes for Jane for the spelling of her maiden name.

NoteShe Jane's surname, McLaren, is shown as such here for it is how it appears in her marriage notice in the Canadian Baptist, October 23, 1873, edition. As well, McLaren is the spelling as shown of her family's name on the 1861 census as enumerated in Bruce Township, Bruce County, Ontario. Similar names are to be found in this census - McLaurin, McLauren - and they may be kin. Find-a-Grave records the burial of Davidson and Jane in Tahoma Cemetery in Yakima, Washington. Jane's maiden name does not appear on the gravestone, though the contributor shows it as McLaurin, which may well be correct. Again, the spelling 'McLaren' is used here for it is shown as such in available information.

The 1861 Bruce Township census page for the family shows Jane as age 10. The is the daughter of Peter and Margaret McLaren. The marriage notice tells that she is the second daughter of Peter McLaren, and indeed this is how she appears in the 1861 census.
