Levi Husband
ID # 7521, (1842-1889)
| Father | George Husband (1818-1901) |
| Mother | Elizabeth Eakins (1820-1900) |
| Baptism | Levi Husband was baptized in 1842 at Nelson Township, Gore District. |
| Marriage | He married Margaret J. Morrison on 8 September 1868 at Oxford County. MS248 reel 12, Vol. 50, page 90 Oxford County Marriage Register Extracted from a list of marriages solemnized by William Richardson, a minister of the Canada Presbyterian Church (Tillsonburg), for the year ending 31st day of December, A.D 1868 Levi Husband, 25, born Nelson, residing Tennssa (Tennessee). Parents George and Elizabeth. Margt. J. Morrison, 24, born Oxford Co., C.W., residing Port Burwell. Parents Alexander and Margaret. Witness Angus McKay, Tilsonburg. On Sept. 8th, 1868. Levi's place of residence is ill-written, but it's safe to say that he was residing in Tennessee. He and Margaret have not been found in the 1870 census, but they are in Grand Rapids, Michigan, as of the 1880 census and have with them daughter Robin, age 10, born in Tennessee. They also have a son with them, William, age 5, who was born in Michigan. County marriage registrations do not typically tell the exact town or township where a marriage was held, but the clergyman was of Tillsonburg and the witness, Angus McKay, likewise, so, probably, the marriage was held in or near Tillsonburg. Tillsonburg is in Dereham Township of Oxford County and Port Burwell, Margaret's residence, is in Bayham Township of Elgin County. |
| Death | He died on 29 November 1889 at Georgetown Twp., Ottawa County, Michigan. |
| Burial | He was buried at Oakhill Cemetery, Grand Rapids, Kent Co., Michigan. |
| Note | A list of deaths in Ottawa County, Michigan, records the death of Levi Husband, age 45, in Georgetown (apparently a township. The date of his death was November 29, 1889. He was said to be married and the cause of death tells simply that he drowned. He was born in Canada and his occupation is said to be book keeping. A similar story appears in the Friday, December 13, 1889 edition of the Coloma Courier, Coloma, Berrien County, Michigan, page 4, column 4, mid way down. This does not date Levi's death but tells the following: Levi Husband, a prominent farmer of Jennison, Ottawa County, went out to look after his stock a few nights ago, and stepping on the ice, slipped and plunged head-long into a water tank and was drowned. (The Coloma Courier story may be found at fulhistory.com, a free and worthy news site with a vast store of mainly U.S. papers, much of what is upstate New York. There are plenty of papers to be found further afield and it's worth taking the trouble to familiarize yourself with its search engine.) Find-a-Grave provides us with Levi's place of burial. |
