Elizabeth is shown as being born on 21st July of 1843. Her baptism was on 1st November, 1864, essentially an adult baptism. Considering that her siblings were duly baptized while still infants we may only guess at what happened. Her middle name, Stele, is poorly written, and may not be quite accurate. She is described as the daughter of William and Phillis Milnes of Trafalgar Street in Leeds. William is shown as a blacksmith. An index to the marriage of Elizabeth Milnes and Joseph Hetherington is to be found on FreeBMD. This shows her middle name as Stell, which is probably the closer to accurate. They were married in Leeds in the first quarter of the year 1870 and are living with mother Phillis in Leeds at the time of the 1871 census. |
