Findlay. There is also a delayed statement of birth dated 1942 and supplied by sister Elizabeth. It's difficult to say why, but perhaps the original was not found. Birth reg. 902123-42 filed at Windsor, Essex Co. Gordon Stewart Findlay born April 30, 1872 in Saugeen Township. Parents John 'Chamers' Hunt Findlay, farmer, and Dorothy Dunn Duff. Name of physician not remembered. Signed by Mrs. Elizabeth Philips of Windsor, Essex County on 10 February, 1942. Mrs. Philips identifies herself as Gordon's elder sister and states that she was present in the home at the time of Gordon's birth. Note here also that while earlier record spell the name Finlay without a D, it seems to have been spelled Findlay in later years. Gordon was born in 1872 and his mother died in 1874. Gordon Stewart Finlay is with a William Finlay, age 49, who is shown as an 'agent' in Pilkington Township. This household is listed immediately prior to that of David Finlay, age 46, bailiff, who will be a brother of William's. Young David, brother of Gordon is in David the bailiff's household, so the two youngest brothers are not far apart. What happened to them in later years has not been followed. |
