Mrge reg. 002899-90 Malahide Twp., Elgin County Friend Boyd, 22, bachelor, farmer, Methodist. Born and residing Malahide. Parents Sewell and Ellen Boyd. Clara Alberta Howell, 17, spinster, Methodist. Born Yarmouth Township, residing Malahide. Parents Gideon D. Howell and Ellenor Howell. Witnesses George Buck and Emma J. Buck, both of Mt. Salem in Malahide Township. On Sept 10th, A.D. 1890, at Township of Malahide, by Rev. Geo. Mason. At first glance, the information relating to the witnesses is difficult to read. When looking over the manner of showing other witnesses, it becomes apparent that the town or village of the residential locale of the witnesses is being shown. Looking over a township map of Malahide it quickly becomes obvious that the otherwise illegible name of the village is Mt. Salem. The 1891 census indexes George and Emma Jane Buck with the surname Barck, but an examination of the handwriting on the census page makes it clear enough that their name is Buck. George and Emma Jane are buried in Luton Cemetery, Malahide Township. Note: A further examination of marriage records shows that George Buck married Emma Jane Boyd, the daughter of Sewell and Ellen Boyd, in 1885. In other words, Emma Jane was Friend's sister. |
