Born Galt. Presbyterian. Physician and informant A. Hawk. The cause of death as it is shown on the form is partially unreadable, but had to do with some disease of the heart. Nicholas Wilkins, merchant, Galt, informant as to the birth of William was married to Elizabeth Burrow, the sister of William's grandmother, Emma Burrow Kay. William is buried with his mother in the Kay plot in section 2 of Mountview Cemetery. The Wilkins connection might not have been noticed, but Nicholas and his wife are buried in the next plot, the transcription of which appears in the Ontario Genealogical Society, Waterloo branch's transcription of section 2 of Mountview. William's death registration as with all from this era is not very informative so far as his family connections are concerned. We may say that, generally, Dr. Hawk was the family doctor at the time, and more specifically his date of death as it is shown on the Kay family gravestone agrees with his date of death as it appears on his death registration. The gravestone does present his age at date of death as 18 years, 9 months, 10 days. This nowhere computes to his date of birth as shown on his birth registration as the 21st of December, 1886, or on the 1901 census at Galt as 22nd December of the same year. Some of Knox's records were destroyed by fire in the 1980s, but it seems at least some survived, for microfilm GS2986 available at the Archives of Ontario does have some baptisms. Your researcher has a page or two from the era, but William's name does not appear. |
