Parents Adam and Margaretha Young. Witnesses David and Katy Hunt, Burgoyne, Bruce Co. On September 3rd, 1890, at Saugeen, by Rev. G. F. Schwarz. The above marriage registration has its problems. The bride's mother's name is shown as Margaretha. Unquestionably, she was Barbara (and this is shown on Maria's death registration as entered by her husband.) There was no other Adam Young in Saugeen, and, as well, the witnesses were obviously Mary, or Maria's, sister Catherine and her husband David. Anotha problem is that Mary's place of birth is shown as Saugeen when she was almost certainly born in Normanby Township. Her death registration simply shows her place of birth as Ontario. |

Length of time residing at place of death 12 years. Parents Adam Young and Barbara Gable, both born Germany. Physician's name illegible. Informant Richardson Traviss, Newmarket, husband. Burial February 16, 1931, at Newmarket. Mary's death registration spells her family name with a double S. As well as her death registration, the inscription on Mary and Richard's gravestone shows the family name as Traviss. The York County branch of the Ontario Genealogical Society has transcribed this cemetery. Richard and Mary's stone reads: Mary Young, May 12, 1870 - Feb. 14, 1931 Dear wife of Richard Traviss, May 12, 1869 - Nov. 20, 1953. |
