Note | A transcription of the grave of Firman Smith shows his date of birth to be 1 November, 1847. This agrees with a photo of his gravestone as it appears on CanGenWeb. This has problems, especially as viewed from his age as shown in the 1851 and 1861 censuses, as well as his age at time of marriage. His year of birth as shown here is 1844 and will at least be close to his correct year of birth if not exact. Death reg. 001745-94 Paris, Brant Co. Firman Smith died 21st April, 1894. Farmer. Cause of death cerebral henorrhage, 48 hours. Physician and informant Dr. A. J. Sinclair, Paris. The registration was filed with the Paris municipal clerk, S. Dadson, on 11th May, 1894. Dadson appends a note at the bottom of the registration, which is initialed by S.D., so we must believe it be Dadson's own note. It reads: The deceased about 35 or 40 years of age came into town from S. Dumfries and fell down stairs at the hotel where he was stopping. Dr. Sinclair's return of information was about 20 days after Firman's death. The death date on the registration is April 21 and the date of death on Firman's gravestone is April 22. Either may be correct. Beyond the above, the form has no other information. A newspaper obituary has been sought, but not found. |
