Marriages by Rev. Jacob Huttner, Minister (Lutheran), Preston:

Michael Mosser to Maria Maselman, both of Waterloo. 27 Oct., 1842. By Banns.

DeathShe died on 12 March 1885 at Wellesley Twp., Waterloo Co., at age 60.
BurialShe was buried at Wellesley Pioneer Cemetery, Wellesley Twp., Waterloo Co..
NoteMary is buried in a small cemetery that is taken care of by Wellesley Township. It is sometimes referred to as the Wellesley Pioneer Cemetery, but also as an Abandoned Cemetery. This latter appears to be incorrect, for, according to the writeup included with with the transcription as provided by the Waterloo branch of the Ontario Genealogical Society, the cemetery has the attention of the township. The transcription was done by Norma and Doris Huber, though the year is not given. The cemetery was reread in 2007.

The writeup tells that stones in the cemetery have been moved at least twice due to proximity to the road. This has been done respectfully by members of the Old Order Mennonite Community.

Mary is buried with her son Daniel who died in 1865 at age 10 months. Also buried in this small cemetery are at least three sons of Mary's sister Anna, the wife of Christian Frey.

Mary's stone at time of transcription was worn and her year of death unreadable. The Kitchener Public Library, however, has done translations of death notices from the Berliner Journal, where they were posted in German, and the 26 March, 1885, edition of this newspaper carried a death notice for Mary Musselman Moser and tells that she died on 12 March, 1885. The transcription of the stone does state that she died 12th March, and since we have her death registration, this is accurate.

Death reg. 016849-85 Wellesley Twp., Waterloo Co.
Maria Moser died March 12, 1885. Age 60 yrs, 11 mos., 16 days. Mennonite. Wife of Michael Moser, farmer. Born Waterloo County. Cause of death heart 'decease' (disease). Physician Dr. Clemens. Informant Henry Moser, Bamburg.

The death registration gives Mary's age as 60 years, 11 months, and 16 days. The Kitchener Public Library's transcription of the death notice (translated from the German) shows her age as 60 years, 11 months, and... The number of days was cut off by the format.

Simon Fraser University, however, does provide images of the Berliner Journal for this era. Page 5 of the 26th March, 1885, edition of this paper has Mary's death notice and does state her age at time of death as being 60 years, 11 months and 16 days, which agrees with her death registration. This calculates out to a date of birth of 24 March, 1824.

Ages as given in this format sometimes conflict with otherwise solid birth information, but, should Mary's age not be exact with this statement, it should be remarkably close.
