| Note | He Valentine, son of John Feick and Margaret Schaefer, appears with his parents and siblings in the 1881 census in Normanby Township of Grey County. He is shown as age 9. He is still with his parents in Normanby in the 1891 census and is shown as age 19. The next and only record found for him is in that of a transcription of the Evangelical United Brethren Cemetery in Normanby Township. This is inscribed as follows: Feick Valentine died 18 November, 1892, age 21 years, 1 month. Son of Johannes and Margareths This is from a transcription of this cemetery as done by the Bruce-Grey branch of the Ontario Genealogical Society. No death registration for Valentine has been found. The 1891 census was begun 6th April of the year and though his age is shown as 19, his age of 21 years 1 month at time of death is no doubt correct. We do not have a place of death for Valentine. He may well have been working away from home and died an accidental death. If, however, he suffered from one of the diseases rampant in the day - consumption (tuberculosis) comes to mind - then he probably did indeed died in Normanby Township. A church or newspaper record may one day be available. |
