Mary Agnes Henderson died October 16th, 1885. Age 42 yrs., 1 mo., 6 dys. Dressmaker. Presbyterian. Born Tp. of Dumfries, Ontario. Cause of death neuralgia 10 days. Physician N. Mulloy, M.D. Informant William Henderson, Doon.

Mary's father and brother were named William and so we don't know who filed her death registration - her father or her brother.

The death was filed in her maiden name, but we have a clear marriage registration for Mary's marriage to James Alexander Fisher in 1872. Also, a transcription of Doon Presbyterian Cemetery as done by the Waterloo branch of the Ontario Genealogical Society transcribes from her gravestone her date of death as October 16th, 1885. This certainly agrees with her death registration. Add to that, she is buried beside her brother, William Henderson and his wife.

The gravestone identifies her as Mary Agnes, the wife of James A. Fisher. With her are buried 3 infant children. Surnames for these children are not given and they may well be the children of James Fisher. We may also note, however, that there are two children in the household of Mary's parents in the 1871 census and, while Mary's surname is not specifically provided, she may possibly be the mother of these children and it is just possible that she was married prior to her marriage to James Fisher. No marriage registration for a prior marriage has been found, however, so this is little better than a hunch.

The Presbyterian Church Archives carries marriage records for the Doon congregation that should cover Mary's marriage to James Fisher as well as any previous marriage performed by that church. This archive is presently closed for the duration of the pandemic.
