| Note | Per John and Carrie's marriage registration, John was a physician at the time they were married. He was a major with the Canadian Army Medical Corps during the First World War. Library & Archives Canada, under their 'Personnel Records of the First World War', has a file for John. At some point in 1916, he was returned to Canada were he continued to serve, but while the personnel file isn't very informative, he was evidently stationed for some time in Ottawa. He had an illness of some duration and this is recorded in his death registration below. Death reg. 012508-18 Ottawa, Carleton Co. John Henry Ratz died 11 February, 1918, at 63 MacLaren Street. Born Elmira, age 48, occupation Major, C. A. M. C. (Canadian Army Medical Corps.) Married. Burial Elmira. Parents John Ratz and Lydia Fray. Physician Dr. Mayburry.
