Witnesses Edward Armitage of Barrie and John Ayer of Innisfil.
On April 21st, 1881, at Barrie, by Rev. J. G. Laird.

The above marriage registration shows Emma as a widow. Nothing has been found to confirm or deny this piece of information, and, while not impossible, it does seem unlikely given that she was 19 years of age. Also, if indeed she was a widow, her marriage to Richard shows her maiden name, Armitage. Unquestionably, this was her parental name. See notes for Emily, which was apparently her correct given name.

DeathShe died on 16 February 1940 at Collingwood, Simcoe County, Ontario, at age 78.
BurialShe was buried on 19 February 1940 at Trinity United Church Cemetery, Nottawasaga Twp., Simcoe Co..
NoteEmily is said to be age 19 when she married Richard Dorsey on April 21, 1881. (The marriage record shows her name as Emma, but Emily appears to be correct.) This was a a couple of weeks after the 1881 census enumeration was begun. Both Richard and Emma are said at the time of their marriage to be resident in Barrie. Richard has been found, though he is shown as a railroad employee in Innisfil Township. Emma/Emily has yet to be found in this enumeration.

Emily, age 9, appears with her father, Joshua Armitage, a widower, in the township of East Gwillimbury in York County as of the 1871 census. She was not born until after the 1861 census. In that census her parents, Joshua and Elizabeth, are resident in the township of Whitchurch in York County. Emily's death registration, which dates her birth to 1 July, 1861, places her birth in Markham Township. This may be correct, though she may actually have been born in Whitchurch.
