| Note | A birth registration for Howard has not been found. It is possible that one exists, perhaps as a delayed registration of birth, for, at least in theory, he might have required one when he signed up for the army in 1916. The 1901 census at Goderich shows Howard's date of birth as 28 September, 1884. The 1911 census at Orillia shows his month of birth as September, 1884. When he signed up with the army, he gave his date of birth as 28 September, 1885. Did this have to do with age requirements at the time of his signing? This is unclear. What we do have is a transcription of Howard and Luella's gravestone in White Chapel Cemetery, Ancaster Township, Wentworth County. This is provided by the Hamilton branch of the Ontario Genealogical Society. This dates Howard's birth to September 28, 1884, and his death to September 10, 1935. The dates of birth and death for his wife, Luella Maude Moffatt, are December 28, 1886, to March 22, 1949. |
