While the above registration isn't explicit, the birth place of the bride and groom was almost certainly Markham Township.

The clergyman's surname may be Haines or Hainer.

Initially, the handwriting on the above marriage registration gives us no clarity as to the name of Susannah's mother. District marriages show Daniel Strickler of Markham marrying Christiana Byer of Pickering on 4 May, 1848, by banns. The witnesses were Daniel Lehman and Wm. James Lesslie. The clergyman was Rev'd. Ludwick Kribs, the Congregational minister at Stouffville.

The 1851 census at Markham Township shows Daniel married to a Christiana and she will be of the above 1848 marriage. The 1861 census has him married to a woman named Elizabeth, born at Whitchurch, and the 1871 census has him still married to Elizabeth.

The York County branch of the Ontario Genealogical Society has transcribed the Byer Cemetery in Markham Township. (The Ontario Cemetery Finding Aid assisted in locating this place of burial for Christiana.) The transcription records 'Christina', the wife of Daniel Strickler, and dates her death to June 2, 1857. Her age is given as 29 years and 16 days. We must believe her to be Susannah's mother.
