Cause of death bronchitis. Physician Dr. Buck. Informant Robt. Joyce, son, Bronte. The handwriting for the abbreviation of the informant's first name, 'Robt.', is questionable. Census information tells us that Joseph Joyce was Roman Catholic and that his wife, Martha Fallows, was Church of England. Oakville Town Cemetery has a Roman Catholic section know as St. Mary's and this is where Joseph was buried. The Halton-Peel branch of the Ontario Genealogical Society has a transcription of Joseph's stone. This has Joseph's stone numbered as nbr. 604 and appears upon page 9-56. Find-a-Grave also has a photograph of Joseph's stone and this has with it an attractive testament to Joseph's character. The OGS transcription is rather more abbreviated. This latter reads: Joseph Joyce born June 7 1808 in Dublin Ireland died Aug 27 1892 in Bronte. (Bronte is now a part of the city of Oakville.) As to census information: The Joseph Joyce family has not been found in the 1851 census. They were probably so enumerated, but Library & Archives Canada states that not all of the Trafalgar Township census for that census year has survived. The family has been found in the 1861 census in the Trafalgar Township enumeration. There is a note on some of the pages however, including the page for Joseph and Martha, to the effect that the page was for the town of Bronte. |
