| Note | She Laura is with her brother Joseph in the 1901 census taken at London, Ontario, and she is said to be a book keeper. Laura's birth registration is 024296-77. She was born Laura Laura Moe at Mitchell, Ontario, in Perth County. Her father was John Wesley Moe and her mother Sophia A. Lawrason. John Wesley Moe is said to be a grocer. It's not known how long the family was in Mitchell, but in 1875 they were in Richmond, where Husted William Moe was born, and by the 1881 census, four years later, the family was in Charlottesville Township in Norfolk County. Here is the marriage notice for Laura: Moe, Laura L. Marriage Sep 10, 1908 BWX, P. 5, Col. 7 Henry, Arthur W. (Husband) Nuptial Notes: HENRY-MOE [Sept 10,1908] A very pretty and quiet wedding was solemnized on Tuesday morning, Sept. 8th at the Young Women's Christian Association, when Miss Laura L.Moe of Detroit, was united in marriage to Mr. Arthur W. Henry of London. Rev. W.A..J. Martin, pastor of Zion Presbyterian church, performed the ceremony in the presence of only the immediate relatives of the contracting parties. Mr. and Mrs. Henry left on the 10:29 train for points east, followed by the good wishes of many friends. Upon their return they will take up their residence in London. Laura's sister Effie was associated with the YWCA at Brantford and this is likely the reason for the marriage there. Laura's brother Joseph and his family had gone to Michigan after 1901 (for they appear at the 1901 census as living at London) and before 1903, for their son Kenneth was born in Michigan. Laura seems to have lived with them, both in London and in Michigan. Laura and Henry's marriage registration is 004962-08. He is said to be a traveller. The place of marriage is Brantford, as stated above, and his residence is said to be London. Her place of birth and residence are said to be Brantford. Her birth registration, shown above, proves otherwise, for she was born at Mitchell. As for her place of residence, it may be that Detroit, as shown in her marriage notice, is closer to the truth. At the time of the 1911 census, Laura and Arthur are with their son Lawrence at London, Ontario. |
