John Joseph Regan was born on 24 August 1863 in South Crosby Twp, Leeds & Grenville County, Ontario.1 He was the son of John Regan and Mary Hamilton.2 He married Mary Ann Byrne on 27 January 1894 in St Edward the Confessor Church, Westport, Leeds & Grenville County, OntarioG.3 He was left a widower when Mary Ann Byrne died on 4 July 1944.4,5 He died on 27 April 1945 of bronchial pneumonia in Chaffey's Lock, Leeds & Grenville County, Ontario, at age 81.1 He was buried in St Columbanus Cemetery, Elgin, Leeds & Grenville County, OntarioG.5

Research Note: The 1871 (age 7), 1881 (age 16), & 1891 (age 27) censuses as well as John’s marriage record (age 30) would all indicate that he was probably born in 1863.
The only actual dates I’ve found for John’s birth are his death registration which says 24 Aug 1863 and the 1901 census which clearly reads 19 Aug 1866. The 1911 census also says Aug 1866.
John was born prior to birth registration in Ontario.
I have not been able to find a baptism record for him – I’ve read the entire set of registers from St Edward’s in Westport, where several of his siblings were baptized and where he was married, as well as other area churches without success.
1863 would be a better fit with the sequence of his siblings' births.

Research Note: John's death registration, filed by his daughter, says his middle name was Joseph. However, in 1928 he signed a delayed birth registration for his son James Leo as "John K Regan".
