Hannah Jane Dowling

"HANNAH JANE GRAVES: 88yrs 8mos 4days; Haney Township, Boscobel, daughter of Wm. and Elizabeth McElhaney Dowling born 2 Oct 1838 at Jamestown PA and died Monday at the home of her daughter, Mrs L.A. Martin of Lynxville. She was married 8 Mar 1868 to Alanson Graves. They immediately established their home on the Graves homestead in Haney, Crawford County, the deceased continued to reside there and for a time at Boscobel until her death. Her husband preceded her in death 33 years ago. She was the last survivor of a pioneer Crawford County family of 10 children. Four children were born to her, the eldest Anna Burns died 1899. Sons: William Roswell of Prairie Du Chien; Alanson Joab of Madison; and daughter: Mrs. Mertie Martin of Lynxville; survive her, also 8 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren; and a wide circle of relatives and friends. Early in life she became a member of the Presbyterian Church at Jamestown, PA and later united with Boscobel Congregational Church in which she retained membership until her death. Services were held Thursday at Boscobel Congregational Church, conducted by Rev. Fisher of Lynxville; assisted by Rev. Spence of Boscobel. Interment at Boscocel Cemetery."²
