Willliam Carl Schlaman
     William Carl Schlaman was born on 10 February 1936 in Portland, Multnomah County, Oregon.1 He was the son of William Carl Schlaman and Geraldine Ruth Mowre.1 He married Barbara Lynne Thacker on 9 February 1958 in La Sierra College, Riverside, Riverside County, California.2 He died on 25 August 2017 in Roseburg, Douglas County, Oregon, at age 81.2

"William (Bill) Carl Schlaman
February 10, 1936 - August 25, 2017
William Carl Schlaman, of Days Creek, Oregon, passed away Friday, August 25, 2017. He was born February 10, 1936, to William Carl and Geraldine Schlaman in Portland, Oregon.
As a young boy he lived in Boise, Idaho; Bend, Oregon; Caldwell, Idaho, before moving to the Riverside, California area.
In his teens he was fascinated with motorcycles and raced with his oldest brother, Jack. Later, through his other brother, Duane, he met Barbara Thacker.
Bill and Barbara were married February 9, 1958, in the chapel on the La Sierra College campus. They settled in Loma Linda, California, where their two children were born, Don and Terri.
Bill was on the Loma Linda Volunteer Fire Dept and became the first paid fireman for the city of Loma Linda. In 1974, he moved his family to Milo, Oregon. He worked for the Oregon State Fire Marshal’s office for 23 years, retiring in 1998. His territory included all of Douglas County, and spent some time in Jackson and Josephine counties.
Bill was an active member of the Milo Adventist Academy Church. He served as a deacon and for quite a few years was the Milo Elementary School Board Chairman. He also did volunteer work for the Canyonville Adventist Community Services. He enjoyed witnessing and giving out books while working for their food bank.
He and his wife, Barbara, also enjoyed traveling; taking many trips in their motor home across the country.
Bill is survived by his wife, Barbara of 59 years; his son, Don, and wife Julie of Yakima, Washington; his daughter, Terri, and husband Steve Behrens of Nipomo, California; four grandchildren, Jennie Schlaman, Travis (Jessica) Schlaman, Brad Behrens and Jason Behrens. He is also survived by three great-grandchildren, Dawson, Dalton, and Asha; also his siblings, Jack (Amy) Schlaman, Duane Schlaman, Joni (Dick) West; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A memorial service will be held at the Milo Academy Adventist Church, Saturday, September 2, 2017, 4:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please donate to your favorite charity.
We want to express our thanks and appreciation to Sarah Calvert and her entire staff at Brookdale for their loving care the last four weeks; Corina of Amedisys Hospice Care the last few days. Also the loving care of Dr. Shelly Brittain and her nurses; Dr. Victor Wallenkamf for his encouragement when Bill was in the Mercy Hospital Emergency Dept; and all the other caring medical help and our neighbors who were always there when we needed them."
