Place of birth for both parents Canada. Sylvester is shown as a farmer. In 1900, Husted Smith and his wife are at Bay Mills, Michigan. Blanche and Clarence are with them at this point. Husted and Jane are in Oakland, Alameda, California, in the 1910 census. She is shown as having borne 4 children of whom two are living. With them are daughter Blanche and son Harold. In the 1920 census, he is shown as a lodger in Scotia, Humboldt Co., California, ED67, P. 17a. It shows his parents as being from Canada, but states that he was born in Michigan. He works in a lumber mill. A marriage record for Husted and Jane has not been found and her maiden name is presently unknown. FamilySearch provides us with a partial transcription of a Florida marriage registration that dates a marriage on 24 November 1921 in St. Johns, Florida, for Husted M. Smith to Carrie Elizabeth Edmundson. In the 1930 census, he is shown as living in St. Petersburg, Pinellas Co., Florida. He is in the household of his sister-in-law Gertrude Edminston. With him is his wife Carrie E. and she is shown as a sister of Grace's. They lived on 10th Street North. He is shown as a toy manufacturer. There are eight people in the household, either nieces or nephews or sisters of Grace's. The census asks the question: What was your age when first married? Husted's age was 25 and Carrie's was 46 so it would appear to confirm that Carrie was Husted's second wife. Beyond the 1930 census, a further record for Husted M. Smith has not been found. Husted's mother, Henrietta Moe Smith, had a brother Husted Moe. Young Husted was probably named after him, though we do not have confirmation of Husted's middle name. |
