Death reg. 036664-16 Hamilton, Wentworth County Earl Victor Robbins, age 15, died January 8, 1916. Occupation pattern maker. Cause and place of death: drowning, Hamilton Bay. Place of burial Hamilton Cemetery. Parents George E. Robbins and Minnie Crull. Informant Geo. E. Robbins of 244 Rosslyn Ave. Attending physician James Anderson M.D. Coroner. There is a stone, number 573a, in section M & O marked only E.V. Robbins. No other inscriptions are recorded on this stone. It seems safe to say that Earl's name does appear, however, on what looks to be a family stone, perhaps erected later. This is stone nbr. 599 in the same transcribed M & O section. There are problems with the transcription. Perhaps the stone's condition is such that it's difficult to read. In any event it shows Earl as Earl W. Robbins, 1899-1916. Since he is clearly buried with his parents, the W. is either a mistranscription, or the stone was done enough years later that a family member made an error. The Toronto Star edition of 10 January 1916, page 5, col. 2, under the heading of News Briefs, shows the following item: Edgar Rosebrugh aged 16; Earl Robbins 16; and Joseph Smiley 18, were drowned while skating on Hamilton Bay Saturday afternoon. |
