ID # 1560, (1837-1862)
FatherGeorge Laws Vrooman (1792-1865)
MotherMargaret Bolton (1795-)
BirthWalter W. Vrooman was born in 1837 at Canada.
DeathHe died on 11 April 1862 at Savannah, Georgia.
NoteHe Walter was living in Courtland, Jo Daviess County, Illinois, with his father George and his step-mother Sarah at the time of the 1860 US census. On 24 May 1861 he enlisted in the Union Army and was assigned to Company E of the 15th Infantry Regiment Illinois. Walter's Civil War record indicates he died of wounds on 11 April, 1862, but, to date, no documentary evidence has been found for his place of death. A family descendant tells that he died in the Civil War at Savannah, Georgia. We have no information showing that Walter ever married.

Thanks to a file provided by a family descendent, a copy of a transaction for Lot 6, Block 6, Town of Apple River, Walter W. Vrooman entered into an arrangement with Ulysses Brown of Jo Daviess County to provide for the 'ease and enjoyment' of his parents, George L. and Sarah Vrooman. This transaction was to come into force should he die while in the service of the U.S. army. The transaction is dated June 3, 1861.

In this one document we have his middle initial shown as W. For a certainty, we do not know what name it stood for, but considering that his brother Elias had a son named Walter Watson Vrooman, it seems likely that the W. stood for Watson.

The abovementioned copy appears to be a part of documentation relating to a complaint made by Sarah with regard to what she considered her portion of George's estate.
