Jacob Shier
ID # 1640, (1824-1904)
| Birth | Jacob Shier was born in 1824. |
| Marriage | He married Phoebe Vrooman, daughter of James Vrooman and Jane Purdy, on 5 April 1848 at Home District. A rather faded and blurred marriage record exists for the Home District for Jacob Shire and Phebe Vrooman, both of Brock Township. The marriage took place on April 5, 1848. The witnesses were Adam Shire and Eliza Shire. The marriage was by the reading of banns. The minister was C.W.M. Gilbert of the Wesleyan Methodist Church. Gilbert only identifies the marriages as having taken place in the Home District, though most of the brides and grooms were resident in Brock Township. Whether the marriages were performed in Brock is another matter. The marriages listed are spread out from October of 1847 to November of 1848 and there are only nine marriages shown. |
| Death | He died on 7 December 1904. |
| Burial | He was buried at Bagshaw Cemetery, Brock Township, Ontario County. |
| Note | Phoebe Vrooman Shier died in 1858. In 1861, we find Jacob Shier in Georgina Township in York County. With him is wife Catherine, maiden name Rynard. With them are children: Jane, age 11; Catharine, age 9; Henry, age 7; Adam Wesley, age 5; and Eliza, age 1. Children Jane through Adam Wesley will be Phoebe's. Indeed we have a marriage registration for Adam Wesley which states that his mother was Phoebe Vrooman. Eliza will be Jacob's daughter by his second wife Catharine. Jacob Shier and Catherine Rynard are buried together in Bagshaw Cemetery in Brock Township, about one concession away from the little cemetery at Vroomanton where Phoebe is buried. |
