Elizabeth Roseltha was baptized on the same day as her brothers Clarence and Robert R. The 1861 census shows her as Roseltha, age 6, with her family in Blenheim Township, Oxford County. The 1871 census shows her as Elizabeth R. Wait, age 15, and again with her family in Blenheim Township. On November 18, 1878, at Detroit, 'Resulta' Elizabeth Wait married William Franklin Mudge. Both are shown as residing Blenheim, Ont. He is 23 and said to be an engineer. Her age is not given. They are both shown as being born in Blenheim, Ont. This marriage form is prior to spaces for names for parents. The officiant appears to be Thomas C. Pickin, Rector. The witnesses appear to be Millie and Henry Ekins of Detroit. (Handwriting difficult.) After her 1878 marriage, a clear narrative of her life has yet to be found. As early as the 1881 census at Brantford, she is using the name Dredge (not Mudge) and has with her two children. Later still, she married twice and, again, gave her name as Dredge, though naming Levi and Mary Wait as her parents. A clear record as to who were her children and who were not remains to be sorted out and the time or place of Roseltha's death has yet to be found or her place of burial. |
