Gore District Marriages
Marriages by Rev. John Low, Wesleyan Methodist Minister.

Levi Waite and Hester E. Cope, both of Dumfries, were married on November 17, 1846, by Publication (of banns). Witnesses Samuel Waite and John W. Moe.

The surname of the witness John W. Moe, as written, takes a bit of creative reading, but Moe is unquestionably correct. John Wesley Moe was Levi Wait's step-brother. John's parents were Henry Moe and Teressa Coleman. Teressa Coleman was Levi's step-mother by his father's second marriage.

That the marriage was performed after the publication of banns does not necessarily mean that it was a church wedding. It may very well have been held at a family home, probably that of the bride.

MarriageHe married Mary Lawrason, daughter of James Lawrason and Laney Bauslaugh, on 14 September 1854.
It isn't clear from the following just where Levi and Mary were married:

The following is from Marriage Notices of Ontario/Reid p.429 from Christian Guardian, 1st November 1854

Sept. 14, 1854, Levi Wait of Dumfries to Mary Laurison of Blenheim. Rev. T. Fawcett.

The clergyman, Rev. Thomas Fawcett, was a Wesleyan Methodist Minister.

DeathHe died on 4 December 1890 at Blenheim Twp., Oxford Co., at age 64.
BurialHe was buried at Richwood United Church Yard Cemetery, Blenheim Twp., Oxford Co..
NoteDeath reg. 012098-91 Blenheim Twp., Oxford Co.
Levi Wait died December 5th, 1890. Age 64 years, 5 mos., 8 days. Farmer. Born Dumfries. Informant Verney Wait, farmer's son, Richwood. Methodist. Registered Jan. 6, 1891.
The township registrar, M.F. Ainslie, added the following in the comments:
Physician's certificate gives date of death as Dec. 4th, instead of Dec. 5th.

Note: There are two transcriptions for Washington Cemetery in Blenheim Township, one being alphabetical. One transcription shows a grave for Elsie, daughter of Levi and Mary Wait. Date of death March 29, 1886, age 16 years and 1 month. The other reads, Elsie, daughter of Orchan and Mary Wait, died March 29, 1886, aged 16 yrs and 1 mo.

There is obviously a transcription error on the first one for the 1881 census shows in the household of Orchan and Mary Wait a daughter Elsie. Her age is shown as 11, which would then be correct for age 16 in 1886. She is not the daughter of Levi and Mary.
