Charlotte Ethel May Lemon born 23 May 1870. Parents Andrew Lemon and Charlotte Laura Armstrong. Informant A. Lemon, barrister, Guelph.
Andrew filed the birth registration with the local clerk on October 8th of 1870
The dates of birth and death for both Codrington and Charlotte Ethel are taken from the Toronto Branch of the OGS transcription of St. John's Norway Cemetery. Ethel's date of birth, 23 May, 1870, is taken from her birth registration, which is likely correct. Her date of birth as shown on her gravestone in St. John's Norway Cemetery is 23 May, 1869.
Errors were occasionally made when filing registrations, but the Canadian 1871 census, which was begun on April 2 shows Ethel as being 10 months of age, so we may take it that she was born in 1870. (It also states that she was born in June of the year! We'll stick with the birth registration.)
Ethel is shown on her gravestone as 'Ethel Lemon, U.E'. UE is the abbreviation for Unity of Empire and indicates that she was of United Empire Loyalist descent and it would seem to indicate that this was formally recognized by the United Empire Loyalist Association.
The following death notice appeared in the February 22, 1952 issue of the Toronto Star:
