| Note | We take Clifford Badger's date of birth from the 1901 census taken at Shoal Lake, Manitoba. This agrees with his date of birth given at the time he signed his attestation papers upon joining the Canadian Army in May of 1915. He signed these papers at Minnedosa in Manitoba. Clifford sailed on the S.S. Lapland in March of 1916 and was transferred to the 52nd Battalion in France in May of 1916. The following is a summary of injuries that Clifford received while in the service. This form appears to have been written at the time of his discharge. This is to be found on Clifford Badger's digitized service record as available at the website of Library & Archives Canada. 10 June 16 G.S.W. (gun shot wound) rt. let, fract. of tibia (A later page in the file describes Clifford as having been 'buried' and unconcious for some 12 hours.) 17 June 17 G.S.W. rt. side head, rt thigh 28 Sept 18 M.S. bullet lt. arm and lt. thigh. 6 March 18 accid. w. lt. knee, barbed wire. From all these his recovery is marked as 'good', which sounds quite remarkable. In February of 1918 he was made a sergeant. He returned to Canada on the S.S. Olympic in March of 1919. |
