NotePhilip and Elizabeth are at the town of Boone in the County of Boone in Illinois at the time of the 1850 census. The census says that Philip is 34 and Elizabeth 30. He is said to have been born in New York. She is said to have been born in Canada, as are their two oldest recorded children, Eleanor and John. William is said to have been born in Illinois.

At the time of the 1860 census, Emerson has been added to their family, born in approximately 1853. In this census, Eleanor is called Ellen; all the children but Emerson are said to have been born in Canada. The logic of the situation is that William and Emerson were both born in Illinois.

There is some possibility, comparing the 1860 and 1870 censuses at Boone, Illinois, that Elizabeth died after 1860 and that Philip married an Ellen.

We take Phillip's death information from a photo of his stone as well as a transcription thereof as provided by Find-a-Grave. The inscription is fairly readable, but the transcription shows his age at time of death as 77 y, 11m, 22d. If this is accurate then his actual date of birth would be 17 February, 1814. For the present, we retain his date of birth as shown in the Bell-Cornwell Family Record.
