| Baptism | Florence Margaret Wolstenholme was baptized on 15 June 1898 at Galt, Waterloo Co., Ontario. |
| Marriage | She married Percy C. Smith, son of Judson Smith and Lucinda Coleman, on 7 October 1939 at Galt, Waterloo Co.. Mrge reg. 030066-39 Galt, Waterloo Co. Percy C. Smith, 55 (born May 11th, 1884), bachelor, warehouseman. United Church. Born Beverly Township, residence North Dumfries. Parents Judson Smith and Lucinda Coleman. Florence Margaret Wattman, 41 (born June 15th, 1898), housekeeper. Roman Catholic. Born Galt, residing North Dumfries. Parents Charles Wolstenholme and Mary Badeau. Father Doyle was the senior priest in Galt for many years. Yes, there is a conflict between Percy's birth registration and his marriage registration. The best that may be said is the the birth registration records his birth as 11 June, 1884, and it was filed on 30th June of the same year with the South Dumfries County Registrar, D. Baptie. |
| Death | She died in 1986. |
| Burial | She was buried on 28 November 1986 at Sec. 5, Mountview Cemetery, Cambridge, Ontario. |
| Note | The death notice for Percy Smith in the Galt Reporter suggests that Florence's maiden name was Wattman. On the evidence, based in part on burial cards for Mountview Cemetery (BC13-49 in section 5), Florence's maiden name was Wolstenholme. According to her marriage registration with Frederick Wilfred Wattman in 1918, she was born in Galt. Her parents were Charles Wolstenholme and Mary Ann Badeau. The 1901 census at Galt shows her birth date as 15 June 1898. She married Frederick Wilfred Wattman on 7 August, 1918, at Galt. See marriage registration 018457-18, Galt. Frederick Wattman died on 4 December 1934 at Galt. His burial date at Mountview is shown as December 13th, 1934. There does not appear to be a stone and a transcription of Section 5, Mountview, shows him in BC13-49. Frederick's father's name was William and it appears from Percy's obituary in the Galt Reporter that there was a son William, and while the suggestion is that the son was Percy's, more likely William was Percy's step-son. Since we have no marriage record for Percy and Florence, we can only guess that they were married some time after 1934. A family story indicates that Florence married again after Percy's death and the burial card for Florence in Section 5, Mountview, BC13-49, shows her name as Mrs. Florence Oliver. She appears to be buried with Frederick. The burial card shows a date of 28 November 1986 and this is most likely a date of burial rather than a date of death. |
