| Note | Grace Anglican baptism records show Josephine 'Martin', daughter of Peter and Augusta, age 7 months, being baptized on July 28, 1849. As mentioned in notes under Peter, Josephine's father, the transcription for this and Josephine's burial record is taken from Vital Records of Upper Canada/Canada West, Volume 2: Part 2, Gore District, 1824-1869, compiled by Dan Walker & Fawne Stratford-Devai, Global Heritage Press, 2005. This transcription, essentially the same transcription, is published by the Brant County branch of the Ontario Genealogical Society, publication nbr. 243, Grace Anglican Church Burials, 1836-1867. This records Josephine's burial with her surname as Martin. It also records her father Peter's surname as Martin. The transcription will be of the church's records rather than gravestones, which do not appear to have survived, and the 'Martin' transcription will be a handwriting issue. Grace Anglican burial records have Josephine being buried on August 2, 1849, in the Episcopal church yard. This is a cemetery at Grace Anglican church, though the gravestones have now been moved and reset along the church's foundation. A transcription of these stones was done in 2011 and no Marter stone appears to have survived. It should be noted that Brant County OGS also has an alphabetical publication of burials (#103), which correctly shows Josephine and her father's surname as Marter. |
