NoteBirth dates for this family are taken from the 1901 census at Galt. William is described as an insurance agent. A family history note states that William died in 1919, but a place of death is not given. The death year, 1919, in the family history note is incorrect.

The Colvin family bible confirms that William was born on 8 December 1858 at Glen Morris.

A note here: Immediately behind the William Colvin gravestone in St. John's Norway Cemetery, there is a stone for a George Colvin and his wife Clara Looney. In this type of research it is tempting to resist the notion of coincidence and it's usually right to do so. In this case, however, coincidence seems to be the only answer. George Colvin's marriage registration makes it clear that he was born in Teeswater. The Teeswater Colvins have been noted during the research of the Dumfries Township Colvins and no connection has been found.

William's year of birth in his death registration conflicts with the 1901 census.

The birth registration for daughter Stella shows her being born in Wellesley Township of Waterloo County, and that of daughter Jennie Gertrude shows her being born in Hawksville, Wellesley Township. The Waterloo County Gazette, 1884-85, shows William present in the Village of Hawksville as a teacher.
