NoteFirst Church's records of baptism appear on microfilm LCM-30 at the archives of the United Church of Canada. Malcolm Harvie's baptism is dated as occurring on May 12, 1844, a Sunday, which would indicate that the ceremony was performed in church. Given the census information we have that approximates Malcolm's year of birth to 1843, and given that we have no other candidates, we may reasonably say that this is Malcolm, the son of Alexander Harvie and Catharine Campbell. The one unfortunate aspect of the baptism records for First Church from this early period is that the parents' names are not given.

The obituary for Alexander Harvie Sr. suggests that Malcolm went to the United States, and at some point he may have. We find him in Goderich in Huron County, however, when he married Jane McLennan. At the time of the 1881 census the family is in Brant Township in Bruce County. His marriage record is quite clear on his parentage. The 1881 census, shown below, has errors, but when matched against registrations found for children, it's clear that it is the same family.

Malcolm Harvie 37
Janet Harvie 35
Jessie Harvie 7
Alexander Harvie 5
Maggie Harvie 3

Brant Township, Bruce County, 1881

At the time of the 1901 census, Jane Harvie is in Marquette, Manitoba. She is shown as a married woman, but Malcolm is not shown with her. With Jane is Jessie, Alex and Maggie. (Jessie's birthday is taken from this census). In the 1906 census, Jane is still at Marquette and shown as the head of the house, but Malcolm is there. Jessie, Alex and Margaret are still with them.

Malcolm's death information is taken from a Manitoba online index. His age is shown as 78, which will be approximately correct.

Catherine Campbell Harvie's obituary in the Dumfries Reformer in 1888 places Malcolm in Minnesota.
