| Note | He Note that Robert's surname is spelled Ferguson on his marriage and death registrations, but it appears on his gravestone as Fergusson. When Margaret died in 1943, her surname was given as Fergusson. Later spellings of the name use the double SS, so it is used here. (One 's' is shown when that is used in the record.) Robert D. Fergusson's parents were Archibald Fergusson and Ann Dickie. Robert appears with them in the 1871 Beverly Township census. A map from the era suggests that the family was on lot 9 of the 9th concession. Along with such as we may find in the way of land information, we may safely identify Robert's parents as Archibald Fergusson, or Fergusson, and Ann Dickie, simply by the fact that Robert and Margaret and their son Blair are buried with Archibald and Annie in section 4 of Mountview Cemetery in Galt. The word 'safely' applies, for some caution is needed here, as there was also an Archibald Ferguson (one s) in North Dumfries, the son of Duncan Ferguson, and who was approximately the same age as Archibald of Beverly. They didn't likely reside many miles apart. Certainly lot 9 on the 9th concession of Beverly is close to the village of Clyde, which Robert mentions as his birth place of his marriage registration. As of the 1891 and 1901 census years Robert and Margaret reside in Beverly Township, but by the 1911 census the family is in North Dumfries. As noted below, Robert's death registration places his residence on lots 4 & 5 on the 11th and 12th concessions of North Dumfries. This is in the Mill Creek area immediately east of Cambridge/Galt and may now be within the city limits of the city of Cambridge. Death reg. 034020-23 North Dumfries Twp., Waterloo Co. Robert D. Ferguson died January 2, 1923, at lots 4 & 5, concessions 11 & 12, North Dumfries Twp. Married. Age 59. Born Beverly Tp., Co. of Wentworth, October 1864. Farmer. Residence at place of death 14 years.
