Oscar's mother was beyond question Jane Eliza. This is based on census information. He also had older siblings who identified their mother as Jane. At a guess, the township clerk had a problem with the clergyman's handwriting.

The marriage registration is dated November of 1875, but the township clerk did not return the registration until 15 January, 1876. This registration will be found under the year 1876 in the database of the Archives of Ontario.

Oscar's death registration shows his place of Birth as Sheffield, Ontario, which is in Beverly Township. Oscar showed Beverly Township as his place of birth on his marriage registration and this is probably technically correct. He may have been born rather closer to the Troy area, but Sheffield would not have been far away.
