James Amor

ID # 6188, (1824-)
FatherThomas Amor
MotherMary Newman (1803-1874)
BirthJames Amor was born on 6 August 1824 at England.
NoteHe James Amor was with his mother and siblings in South Dumfries Township of Brant County as of the 1851 (actually January of 1852) census. At some point thereafter he moved to West Williams Township of Middlesex County. The abstract index for lot 23 on the 17th concession shows his purchase of the north 50 acres on April 20, 1860. The image for this transaction appears on the website onland.ca, Middlesex County, Abstract Index, page 7, book 3, C17-L23. The McGill University County Map Project shows James still there in approximately 1878, as shown on a county gazetteer. The index of persons for this township shows James with 40 acres on lot 23 of the 17th and 15 acres on lot 24 of the 17th. The West Williams Township map indicates that these properties are only a little north of the village of Sylvan.

The 1861 personal census shows him on his own in West Williams as a farmer, age 35, single, religious persuasion not given. Further down the page is a Susan Robison, age 27, born England, single, Church of England. She is probably Susan Robinson, whom James later married. She is shown with a William Robison, age 20, born Canada, single, also Church of England. At a guess, they are brother and sister.

For the following see Ancestry's presentation of the 1861 census. The pertinent image is 2447. The is a page of the agricultural census for West Williams and names James as James Emar. The entry for James is poorly written, but does appear to agree with the above noted abstract index record. (The original source may be an amalgam of microfilm reels ranging from C-1049 to C-1051.)
