ID # 6363, (1811-)
|Birth||Nancy Vaud was born in 1811.|
|Marriage||She married John Hestont.|
|Note||The 1851 census in Walpole Township so far as Nancy is concerned is of some interest. In the Hestont household is an Eliza Berdan, age 7. John Hestont, according to the 1851 agricultural census for Walpole, is a landowner and farmer. Several names follow the family's listing, names of laborers who may be working for the Hestonts. One of them is Jacob Berdan, age 36.|
The 1861 census shows an Albert 'Bridan' in the Hestont household. He is age 72. This suggests the possibility that Berdan was Nancy's family name. Direct evidence has yet to be found.
Robert Mutrie, in his Long Point Settlers, 1992 & 2016, page 59, records Albert Berdan jr., the son of Albert Berdan, who was a sergeant in the New Jersey Volunteers, was granted 200 acres of land in 1810. Albert and wife Mary had a daughter Nancy.
The difficulty with the foregoing is that the death registration of son John Henry Hestont shows his mother as Nancy Vaud. Somewhere, somehow, there's more to the story.
