Elsie May Histant born 23 Jany 1885. Parents John Henry Histant, laborer, and Emma Hall. Physician and informant Geo. Sherk, M.D.
A marriage registration is to be found for a Clara May Hestont, age 20, born Walpole, parents Jno. Hestont and Emma Hall. She married in 1905 a Charles Clair of Walpole, age 22, farmer, son of James Clair and Margaret Musklson (apparently so spelled). Logic indicates that this is Elsie May and that the township clerk for Walpole had problems with the clergyman's handwriting. The names of the witnesses are almost entire illegible.
If the above is a correct interpretation, then Charles Clair could not have lived long, for in 1916, Elsie May Hestont, so named, but also shown as a widow, married a Cecil Edwin Gunthorpe at Branchton in North Dumfries of Waterloo County. She identifies herself as born and residing in Walpole and the daughter of John Hestont and Emily Hall. Edwin Gunthorpe is shown as being of Walpole.
The 1921 shows Elsie (poorly written) and husband Cecil. Also with them is 'son' Clare, Albert Gordon.
A burial card for Albert Gordon Clair is to be found at the cemetery office in Cambridge/Galt for Albert Gordon Clair. He is in section 2 of Mountview. He was buried on December 11, 1950.
