Charlotte Josephine Hespeler
ID # 6852, (1822-1895)
| Father | Johann Georg Hespeler (1784-1840) |
| Mother | Anna Barbara Wick (1791-1881) |
| Birth | Charlotte Josephine Hespeler was born on 6 May 1822 at Gernsbach, Baden (Baden-Wurttemburg), Germany. |
| Marriage | She married Jacob Freidrich Beck on 19 October 1845 at Wellington District. See Marriage Registers of Upper Canada / Canada West, Wellington District, Vol. 9, Part 1, 1840-1852, compiled by Dan Walker & Fawne Stratford-Devai, Global Heritage Press, 2000, page 36. Extracted from a list of marriages solemnized by Rev'd Jacob Huttner, Lutheran Minister, Preston. Jacob Beck to Charlotte Hespeler, both of Waterloo. 19 Oct., 1845, by Licence. The Wellington District marriage register is not to be found at the Archives of Ontario, but is in the hands of the Wellington County Museum at Fergus and is microfilmed. The old Wellington District included townships that are in the present day counties of Wellington, Dufferin, Waterloo, Grey, and Perth. All of present day Waterloo County was in the Wellington District with the exception of North Dumfries Township which was in the Gore District. Rev. Huttner was located at Preston, which is in the bounds of Waterloo Township and now a part of the City of Cambridge. This does not mean that the marriage of Jacob and Charlotte was performed in Preston, though this is probably the case. |
| Death | She died on 26 June 1895 at Detroit, Michigan, at age 73. |
| Burial | She was buried on 28 June 1895 at Sec. K, Preston Cemetery. |
| Note | For Charlotte's passing, see The Berlin Daily Record edition of Friday, June 28, 1895. This has an obituary for Mrs. Jacob Beck of Detroit who died Wednesday in that city and whose funeral is to be held Friday (the same date as that of the newspapers) at Preston. The story tells that she was the sister of the late Jacob Hespeler and that her husband and daughter are traveling in Germany. The source for the above is Craig Burtch, Early Ontario Newspaper Transcription Series, The Waterloo County Papers, Vol. 43, Global Heritage Press, 2012. |
