The county marriage register's do not typically show the exact location of a marriage. Some implications may be taken, but while the marriage almost certainly took place in the county wherein the marriage was registered, this is not always certain. Rosemary Ambrose, however, has transcribed birth, marriage, and death notices from the Dumfries Reformer. The November 4, 1868 edition of this newspaper tells that on 28 October, 1868, Frederick Guggisberg of Galt married Dora Louisa 'Wilson' at Christ Church in Hamilton. The clergyman was Rev. James Gamble Geddes. Dora is said to be the third daughter of John W. Wilson, Oak Grove, and the granddaughter of the late Hon. John Wilson. |

Cause of death necrosis of the jawbone, about 5 months. Physician and informant Edward M. Hodder, M.D. The date 25th as written could either be 25th or 23rd, but a death notice was placed in the Berliner Journal. Transcriptions of death notices from this era were translated from German by staff at the Kitchener Public Library. This notes that the death notice for Friedrich Guggisberg appeared in the 03 April 1873 edition of the paper and dates his death to 25 March 1873 at Toronto. It describes him as a merchant from Galt and his age as 33 years and 4 months. The 1851 census at Galt shows a Frederick, last namely poorly written, with Adam Warnock in Galt. The last name is almost certainly Guggisberg. When he married Dora Louisa Willson, he married the sister-in-law of George Hespeler. Stephanie Hespeler Warnock was George's aunt. |
