| Note | The 1861 census at Seneca Township, Haldimand County, is the one census record that we find for John. This shows him as John H. Picket, age 9. The Haldimand County branch of the Ontario Genealogical Society transcribed Zoar Methodist Cemetery, Seneca Township, in 1984, and this records the gravestone of John M. Picket, the son of Joseph and Susannah Picket, and shows his date of death as March 10, 1861, at the age of 9 years, 8 months, and 22 days. This calculates to a birth date of June 17, 1851, which may or may not be precisely accurate. A transcription of this cemetery was done by Interment.net in 2009 by Murray Fair, an emminently competent recorder, and the stone was not found, so it will have fallen over and been covered by turf, or perhaps has crumbled. The Pickett family was Methodist per census information, so Zoar Methodist Church was likely their church of choice while they were residing in Seneca. |
