| Note | Henry Nichols is buried in Woodland Cemetery, London, with Rachel. The cemetery's transcription, as provided by the London branch of the Ontario Genealogical Society, has it that he died on September 14, 1914. Based on this, a sure death registration for Henry has not been found. The transcription tells that he died on the above date at the age of 72 yrs., 5 mos., 16 days, and this computes to a date of birth of March 29, 1842. This agrees with his date of birth as shown in the 1901 census in Westminster Township. (We may note that Rachel's date of birth shown in the 1901 census, 23 November, 1854, agrees with her date of birth as shown on the family's gravestone. Rachel is last shown in West Williams Township, age 16, with her mother and step-father in the 1871 census. By the time of the 1881 census, she resides in Westminster Township with her husband Henry Nichols. With them are two children, ages 3 and 1. This would imply a marriage around the year of, perhaps, 1876 or 1877, but a marriage registration has not been found. The census shows the couple as Baptist, though they were perhaps of two different confessions. The Christian Messenger/Canadian Baptist has been consulted, but nothing found. |
