| Note | He John and Maria's marriage registration shows the parents of John Thede as Charles Thede and Fredericke Thede. John and Maria are buried in Sanctuary Park Cemetery at Port Elgin and John's parents are buried there as well. The Bruce-Grey branch of the Ontario Genealogical Society has transcribed this cemetery and they shows John's parents' gravestone as reading: Thede Charles Thede June 9 1920, 91 yrs wife Freiderika Brand Jul 17 1910, 74 yrs Informantion for John's siblings records Frederika's maiden name as Brandt, and this seems the more likely. Death reg. 018881-43 Owen Sound, Grey Co. John Thede died February 4, 1943, at Pinedene Apartments. His residence is shown as 285 10th St. West, Owen Sound (which, according to the 1942 edition of the Owen Sound Vernon's City Directory, is the same place). He had resided at this address for the past 3 months. Widower. Born Ontario on May 31st, 1854. Age 89 yrs. Trade electrician. Father Carl Thede, born Germany. Mother's name unknown to family. Physician Dr. Phillips. Informant Mrs. Fred Hanbridge, 285 10th St. West, Owen Sound, daughter. Burial Feb. 6, 1943, at Port Elgin. The 1942 Vernon's Owen Sound Directory shows the Hanbridge family in apartment D of the Pinedene apartments and it seems reasonable that for the last three months of his life John lived with his daughter. |
