| Note | Catherine's maiden name, Moyer, is to be found on page 194 of A Genealogical Record of the descendants of Christian and Hans Meyer, and other pioneers, by Rev. A. J. Fretz, Milton, N.J., 1896, News Printing House, Harleysville, Pa. This does date Joseph's birth to 25 September, 1795, as opposed to 24 September. This would appear to confirm that the children of Joseph were those of his wife Margaret, for the brief paragraph for Joseph and Catherine states that they had no issue. Fretz's book about the Meyers isn't the most easily read. To find Catherine's parents it's necessary to work back to page 188. Here, we find that her parents were Christian Meyer who was born in Franconia Township, Pa., on March 27, 1763. He married twice, but his first wife, Mary Landis, was Catherine's mother. And, yes, the name Meyer does appear to have undergone change, or at least so in some lines. |
