| Note | Prior to the marriage of Henry Hurd and Ann Jane McTavish, only one record for Ann Jane has been. She appears in the 1861 census in Euphrasia Township of Grey County and is shown as age 18, born in Scotland, and as a school teacher. She is apparently boarding in the residence of James and Ann Jane Curry. The Curry's home is described as made of logs. They have five children plus Ann Jane with them. A death registration for Ann has not been found. Her date of death is taken from a transcription of Thornbury-Clarksburg Union Cemetery, Collingwood Township, Grey County. This tells that she died on Feb. 15, 1875, and that her age was 31 years, 2 months, and 2 days. Her date of birth, December 31, 1843, is calculated from this, which may or may not be correct - see below. The plot that they are buried in appears to be that of Henry's parents, Jehial Hurd and Catherine Kilburn. The cemetery's transcription was done by the Bruce-Grey Genealogical Society, originally in 1980 and updated in 1996. What may be a birth record for Ann Jane McTavish has been found. Ancestry has a database: Scotland, Select Births and Baptisms, 1564-1950. This shows... Anne Jane McTavish born 21 Nov, 1842, in Govan, Lanark, Scotland. Her parents are said to be Peter McTavish and Isabella Walker. This is found on FHL film nbr. 1066592. As mentioned above, this may or may not be correct, but it wouldn't take much of an error in the inscription on Ann's gravestone for the birth record to be correct. |
