Helen Hogg

ID # 9163, (1831-1880)
FatherFrancis Hogg (-1841)
MotherMargaret Brydon (1796-1860)
BaptismHelen Hogg was baptized in 1831 at Dumfries Township, Gore District, Upper Canada.
MarriageShe married Andrew Dryden, son of Thomas Dryden and Agnes (--?--), on 31 October 1856.
The Waterloo-Wellington branch of the Ontario Genealogical Society transcribed marriage notices as they appeared in the Dumfries Reformer for the years of 1853-1859. This shows the marriage of Andrew Dryden to Helen Hogg, both of Dumfries, as being on the 31st of October, 1856. This appeared in the Reformer edition of 5 November, 1856. The clergyman was Rev. Hamilton Gibson of St. Andrews Church in Galt.

We do not know if the marriage was held in the town or the township.

DeathShe died on 3 August 1880 at Galt, Waterloo Co., Ontario.
NoteDeath reg. 016486-80 Galt, Waterloo Co.
Ellen Dryden died 3rd August, 1880. Age 50. Married.
Born North Dumfries. Presbyterian. Cause of death cancer. One year. Physician Dr. Richardson. Informant Andrew Dryden, carpenter, Galt.

The handwriting on the above death registration is difficult. There is a word preceding Ellen's place of birth and which may expand upon it, but it is illegible. The letter H. has been printed in prior to Ellen's given name, perhaps implying 'Helen'.

Andrew and Ellen had three infant children buried in Mountview Cemetery, though at the time of theirs and Ellen's demise the name of the cemetery was the Galt Cemetery. It doesn't seem likely that Ellen was buried anywere else by the Galt Cemetery, but the available transcription, while showing the burials of her children does not show her name other than to identify them as the children of Ellen and Andrew. The cemetery office has not found a burial record for her.

Ellen's age is illegible so far as the second digit is concerned, but age 50 won't be far off.
