| Note | Information for the family of John Best and Esther Sefton is initially taken from the 1851 census for Aghalee, Co. Antrim, Ireland. This is said to be a fragment. Not too many Ireland census pages from the early years have survived. The 1851 census for Aghalee does give us a good list for the Best family. Also, notice that John and Esther's son, Richardson, married Eleanor Susanna Johnson. Richardson and Eleanor are with Richardson's brother Joseph in Collingwood Township,Grey County, Ontario, Canada, as of the 1871 census. A marriage registration for Richardson and Eleanor has been found - they married in 1866 - and as of the 1871 census in Canada they appear to have no children. The marriage registration shows Eleanor's father as James Johnson, and the family, with Eleanor, does appear in the 1851 Aghalee census. Most of the years of birth for the Best and Johnson children are approximated based on their age as of the 1851 census. Wherein other information has been found (mostly not), this has been stated. The names and approximations of years of birth are entered here to assist with searches for families in later years. It should be mentioned that John and Esther's son Joseph's death registration does provide Esther's maiden name. |
