| Note | Son Joseph Best's death registration tells that his mother's maiden name was Sefton. The John Best family as they appear in the 1851 census at Aghalee in County Antrim shows as living with them a Wm. Best, age 81. He is described as John Best's father-in-law. We may take this as documentary support that he was the father of Esther Sefton, John Best's wife. We do not as yet know the name of William Sefton's wife.
The what survives of the 1851 census and earlier censuses is said to be fragmentary. William Sefton has not yet been found in a record that is earlier or later than the 1851 census. |
