Witnesses James Walker and John Ellis, both of Garafraxa. On Feb 20, 1867. |

| Note | It is evident from the transcription of their place of burial at New Hope Cemetery in Hespeler, that Elizabeth's mother Mary Near, 1817-1905, is buried with them. Elizabeth's father, Henry, is apparently buried at Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Garafraxa. This is being researched. The 1871 census at Garafraxa West is of some interest. The marriage registration for Schuyler and Elizabeth shows Elizabeth's parents as Henry and Mary Near. Henry and Mary Near immediately follow Schuyler and Elizabeth on the 1871 census page. Their ages are given as 63 and 53. He is shown as being born in Ontario and she in Germany. With them are children John age 26 and Elizabetgh age 18. The 1881 census shows Maria Near, age 62, born Germany, in the next household. Also with Maria is Maria Lee, born Germany, age 90. Lee seems improbable as a German name, yet she may be Maria's mother. Henry Near is buried in Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Garafraxa West. The condition of the stone at the time of transcription must have been worn, for beyond his name, we have no useful information. |
